Solar Energy Solutions FAQ

While many of our solar energy solutions are co-located on agricultural land, the amount of space used for agricultural production still vastly outweighs the land used for renewable energy. At TDX, we trust our farmers and landowners to know what's best for their land and their families. We're proud to partner with them to extend the legacy of their land by "farming" the sun. Many landowners have portions of property that are underutilized or less suitable for crop production. These areas often offer ideal conditions for solar installations. By leasing this land for solar development, landowners can allow the soil to rest and regenerate until decommissioning, when it can be returned to agricultural use. Solar leases not only help keep land in the family for future generations, but they also provide reliable income that many landowners reinvest in their active farming operations.

Careful land stewardship is a cornerstone of our operations. Solar energy solutions from TDX undergo extensive environmental studies during the permit process, and we are held to those conditions throughout the life of the project. Our projects are meticulously planned from the outset to work cohesively with natural landscapes and associated vegetation and wildlife. We collaborate with soil experts, ecologists, community planners, and nearby residents to ensure we gather the appropriate input about environmental impact before beginning development. While there may be a temporary disturbance during construction, there is vegetative regrowth and reinhabitation by many animal species during operations.

Careful planning, location selection, and appropriate screening aim to make TDX solar energy projects as unobtrusive as possible for local communities. Numerous studies show that the installation of solar arrays has no negative impact on property values and, in some cases, results in a slight increase in the value of agricultural land that would have otherwise remained unused or used for different purposes.

Sunlight is a vast, inexhaustible, free, and highly predictable resource, making it ideal for low-cost energy production–and its use is not new. NASA has utilized solar panels since the 1980s for spacecraft, including the Hubble Telescope, and solar installations are trusted by the U.S. military to power remote areas. In 2023, Norway installed the world's most northerly solar plant in Svalbard, just a few hundred miles from the North Pole. TDX carefully forecasts and selects sites with an abundance of sunlight throughout the year for solar energy installations. Power from the sun is typically generated during peak demand periods, while battery systems at nearby storage co-locations ensure a continuous supply of dispatchable power. As such, solar energy solutions are proven to be reliable sources of energy with minimal outages.

No. The contents of solar panels are solid (as opposed to liquid or vapor) and encased in tempered safety glass.

No. Solar panels produce DC electricity, which has no EMF radiation. Panels absorb sunlight and convert some into electricity. The rest is released as a minimal amount of heat, but of no safety concern to plants, animals, or humans. Modern solar panels are specifically designed to not reflect light, and TDX solar energy projects incorporate natural shrubbery shields to integrate with the landscape.

Yes, solar panels are durable and can withstand impact from hail, weight from snow, high and low outdoor temperatures, and hurricane-force winds.

TDX solar projects create multiple local benefits: economic growth, power returned to local grids, potential reduction in local energy prices, and a pivot to large-scale renewable power.
